Inamorata visualizes the literary stories of women oppressed by their male lovers. Through self portraiture, I construct key scenes inspired by the play “Eurydice” by Sarah Ruhl, and the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

The images of Inamorata narrate the emotional turmoil and manipulation these characters experienced. By leaving out the male protagonists, these images are aftermaths of the insinuated torment. In the “Eurydice” series, I illustrate the character's blind, fervent love for her male counterparts and how this susceptibility leads to her ultimate downfall. In my photos inspired by “The Yellow Wallpaper,” I stage moments of her mental spiral as she is held in captivity by a stubborn husband. To create a surreal, yet entrancing experience, I use muted colors and interesting contrast.

We live in an era that glorifies feminism, however, domestic abuses are abundant. By retailing these stories, I wish to bring them out of obscurity to the realm of photography, a center stage of modern art, to renew attention to these timeless dramas.
